I’ve developed a tasty wheat free pizza base mix with the help of the Pizzaiolos at Salvo’s an Award winning Italian restaurant in Leeds, West Yorkshire. You’ll be able to get your hands on a pack for around 2.49 from Waitrose or or via online shops. It might sound a little bit expensive, but the 300g pack contains enough mix to make 4 pizza bases.
Here is what you’ll need to create a delicious wheat free pizza using our mix.
Ingredients for 2 pizzas
150g of Isabel’s pizza base mix (1 sachet)
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 Small egg lightly whisked
Plenty of cornflour for dusting the work surface and to prevent the dough from sticking.
Preheat the oven as per pack instructions.
Mix the contents of 1 sachet with the water, olive oil and lightly whisked egg.
Knead the dough until it becomes silky and pliable (with this dough the more you knead the more pliable the dough becomes) then divide into two balls.
Bake on a non-stick tray for 20 minutes turning over half way.
Remove and allow to cool down for a minute or so, then add your toppings. Don’t worry if the base rises a bit too much, it will flatten when your toppings are added.
For best results avoid using tomato sauce with too much moisture, reduce the sauce to eliminate any excessive moisture before adding the sauce to the base.
Bake for another 5 – 10 minutes. Enjoy hot from the oven.
Try adding the topping on the base without part baking – the base might be a little chewier in the middle, but you might enjoy it!
Roll out any unused dough, cover with cling film and freeze to use later.
